Laitkynsew village is famous for the living root bridges, which were built across the local monsoon-fed river by the members of Khasi and Jaintia tribes. They brought the secondary roots of trees on either side of the river to the opposite side and embedded them. Gradually with time, these roots grew and strengthened, giving rise to the present day living root bridges. Smit, a place in the Shillong district, where the shodh yatra ends is widely known as the Khasi culture center. read more...
